New Years Eve Inspiration – Anna Karina

Did you catch my last post on a Holly Golightly inspired get-up for NYE? I had so much fun planning that outfit, I’ve decided to continue into a series! My next source of inspiration comes from another 1960s beauty – Anna Karina. I chose Anna because in every one of her films she seems to be frolicking about in ballet pumps – an item of shoe wear I feel is somewhat undervalued for NYE: a time when all you want to do dance and mingle with friends (heels get in the way for me – I’m fairly likely to end up face down at some point). I loved Anna Karina’s strapless dress and flats combo in Ce Soir Ou Jamais – which I felt could translate into a pretty perfect NYE ensemble.

Anna’s laidback, fun and feminine style is perfect for those who want a fuss-free look that won’t involve any accidental flashing or tripping over (as an accident prone lady these are very appealing credentials). The strapless party dress can be found at Jack Wills and is currently half price! Add some false eyelashes and a feline flick of eyeliner to recreate Anna’s flirty yet innocent wide eyed make up (I’ve been using Rimmel’s exaggerate liquid liner for years and have yet to find a better product – just make sure you use the waterproof version!). I like to think Anna would approve of the heart shaped shoulder bag, which I like to think of as a compromise between childishly fun and elegantly sophisticated. I’ve added two shoe options – you could play it safe with two tone ballet flats (H&M) or glitz it up – it is New Years Eve after all – with some sparkly pumps (Old Navy – only £16!).
